SAP Calculations for Extensions

SAP Calculations for Extensions
– How Do They Work?

Most people like lots of light – which means maximising the window and roof light areas.

If you build an extension where the glazed area is greater than 25% of the floor area, then we can provide a SAP assessment to demonstrate compliance with Part L1B of the Building Regulations.

Using SAP, we will provide you with a cost effective solution to ensure that your planned extension achieves Part L 2021 compliance – without any restriction in the amount of glazing included in the design.

Glazing loses more heat than walls, which is why the Building Regulations impose a limit to the glazed area. However, by upgrading or over compensating in the construction of other elements, or perhaps demonstrating additional, useful solar gains by virtue of that extra glazing, the negative impact of the glass can be removed.

After a brief site visit, we carry out the remainder of the work as a desktop assessment, producing the SAP assessment required by your Building Control Inspector.

We have helped hundreds of clients and their architects to achieve their dream extension and have a 100% success record, to date, for this service.
