SAP Calculations for Conversions
– How Do They Work?

If a building is altered so there is a distinct ‘change of use’ to residential accommodation, then Part L 2021 of the Building Regulations outlines the requirements that must be achieved to demonstrate compliance.

A clear example of ‘change of use’ of a building is where it is converted from commercial usage to residence. e.g. warehouses to a block of flats, as in the illustration.

We carry out SAP calculations from existing and proposed plans and detailed specification for construction and services. From the drawings and information supplied, the assessment is carried out as a desktop exercise, eliminating the need for a site visit.

We work closely with the client to make Part L compliance readily achievable. The assessment takes place over two stages:

• As Designed stage
• As Built stage(includes issue of SAP-EPC document)

We will ensure that both new and existing elements meet the Part L requirements, identifying how existing walls, floors and roofs may be upgraded and how new elements such as glazing, heating and insulation should best be applied.
